    Hi Kam,

No problem at all.  I'll make sure that all the issues below have been mapped out so that we can consider this as part of the walkabout.

Will let you know the results of the walkabout and any potential intervention arising as soon as I can after this time.

    Dear Tracy

Russia Dock Woodland (RDW) : Community Safety Strategy Meetings on 19 and 26 March 2008 (Arson + Reckless & Anti-Social Motorbikes + Motorbike Theft + Abandoned Vehicles + Waste Disposal)

Thank you very much for your prompt and positive response to my latest request for help. I have noted that Gill Davies (Southwark Council's Head of Environment & Housing) was one of the recipients of your email below which gave me extra reassurance that the recent concerns/complaints of some Rotherhithe Residents have received the highest and best possible attention.  I was delighted to learn from your last email that Safer Southwark Partnership is already thinking ahead to prepare for the warmer months.  We seemed to have enjoyed a relatively peaceful summer last year and let's hope it will be repeated, if not improved upon, going forward.  Thank you for your kind invitation to the meeting on 19-3-2008 which I will not be attending due to work commitment.  I am most grateful for your kind offer to update me on the results of the meeting on 26-3-2008.  I have also noted the content of David Meagher's update email below of 10-3-2008 @ 10:52am, especially the mention of potential Safer Neighbourhood Police Team / Community Wardens Joint Operations in the near future to help combat Reckless & Anti-Social Motorbikes (RAMs) and Motorbike Theft.  I have posted both emails on the RCSF Blog which is available for public access via the web link : http://rotherhithe0003.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!4337256240820D27!308.entry   I will also circulate this email to some of my other contacts to help "Spread The Words" and encourage them to do likewise.

Some Rotherhithe Residents have recently expressed concerns regarding public waste disposal (Flytipping, Abandoned Vehicles & Major Green Waste) and the associated Arson Risk.  Your meeting place on 19-3-2008 at the End of Downtown Road, near the Entrance of Surrey Docks Health Centre & Russia Dock Woodland has often suffered from flytipping in addition to RAMs.   I have especially compiled an information pack for your potential use that can be accessed via the web link below:

    1)    Flytipping & Abandoned Vehicle

    a)    Cannabis Factory Dumping

    b)    Arson / Burnt Out Car :  See Photo-Report of 12-8-2007 @ 10:04

    c)    See Photo-Report of 4-9-2007 @ 2:37pm

    d)    See Photo-Report of 29-6-2007 @ 2:49pm

    2)   Major Green Waste in RDW :  See Photo-Report of 13-7-2007 @ 2:48am

Lindsay Burns, Southwark Reporter  of South London Press, has advised me via her email below of 10-3-2008 @ 1:49pm that she was planning to do a news report on the burnt out motorbike in Rotherhithe last weekend which a concerned local resident who sent me the two photos called a "Trophy of Definace".  I have already sent a copy of your email below to both Lindsay Burns and Jon Surtees at Southwark News for their information and potential use.

Val Shawcross AM and Cllr. Jenny Jones AM have both continue to show strong interest in Russia Dock Woodland and they have been following this case.  I am hereby keeping them informed of the response from Safer Southwark Partnership via your email below.

Many thanks again for your continual and strong support.

    All best wishes

    Hi Kam,

I've been keeping up to date on the e-mails that yourself and Steve Cornish have been sending out over the past week.

I've arranged for the crime prevention and design officer to meet with myself and the arson reduction officer on site on Wednesday 19th March 2pm (meeting on Downtown Road) to see if there are any other options for designing out nuisance bikes within this area.  Both you and Steve are more than welcome to attend on the day as well.

As well as the walkabout i've set up a meeting between key council officers in the area, London Fire Brigade and the local Safer Neighbourhood Team to discuss past partnership work and what can be repeated and improved before the summer months are upon us.  The meeting will be held on the 26th March and I will of course keep you updated on the results of this meeting and any partnership work that will be undertaken as a result.

If you have any other questions on this matter please don't hesitate to get in touch.

    Kindest regards,

    Hi Kam,

I was wondering if you could give me a ring re the motorbike in Rotherhithe? I would really like to do a story on it, but need to speak to the people who have posted the picture etc - anonymously if they would prefer.

    Hope you are well,

    G'day the parking department,
As per this mornings phone conversation, please see the emails below re the location of the burnt out bike for urgent collection.
I will forward another email about a possible second burnt out bike that I was led to believe that you collected on Friday, just in case?

    G'day Will,
As per this mornings phone conversation, please see the email below for detail on the bridge that needs an urgent health and safety inspection.

    G'day Steve,
I am very sorry to read about these mindless acts of vandalism. According to the parking department, they did collect the stolen bike from behind the bakery last week, so I don't believe that it could have been the same bike? I have forwarded the information to the LBS arson reduction officer. I will also be seeking to set up some more of the very successful SNT/warden anti motorbike (ASB and stolen) operations in the near future.

    Thanks all
    D

    Dear Friends

Please see Steve Cornish's (Chair of The Friends of Russia Dock Woodland) email below of 8 March 2008 @ 10:24am for your urgent attention and potential follow-up actions.  There seemed to be a resurgence of Arson and Reckless & Anti-Social Motorcycles (RAMs)  incidents in RDW in recent weeks that is causing increasing Public Concerns.  Furthermore, Southwark Council's apparent failure to provide a timely response to local residents' request for the Removal Abandoned/Burnt Out Motorcycles has reportedly exacerbated the problems.  Two photos taken by Steve Cornish of the burnt out motorbike lying on the fire-damaged Redriff Bridge can be viewed via the web link :  http://rotherhithe0003.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!4337256240820D27!220.entry

Pupils of Redriff Primary School have worked long and hard with the local blacksmith artist, Kevin Boys, to create their very own school logo sculpture which has been installed on Redriff Bridge that has caused much pulic excitement and positive reactions (Web Link to Photo-Report of 24-7-2007 @ 1:24pm :  http://rotherhithe0001.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!7BC0AE7DB0FCE5EE!468.entry).  I am deeply saddened by the fire damage caused to Redriff Bridge and sincerely hope that Southwark Council will promptly carry out the necessary check and repair work to minimise the Public Safety Risk as Steve Cornish has highlighted in his email below.

Rebeka Clark (Stave Hill Ecology Park Site Manager) is meeting representatives of Heritage Lottery Fund on Monday, 10 March 2008.  I very much hope these recent incidents, including the reported damage to the Wild Flower Meadow, will not adversely affect our chance of success in winning this important and high-profile £350,000 funding bid for our Common Good.

I will circulate this email to some local residents to request them to help look out and promptly report any community safety concern, real or suspected, to the authorities.  For this purpose, I have included below some recommended reading and sources of information:
